They are good in so many fields

If you have read these pages you have propably noticed that SV:s can be used  in various fields. Originally they were herders, herding cows, but also general dogs in the farmhouses… keeping company, watching children and the garden, killing rats etc. So, it is in their genes--need to do something! If you prefer laying on the sofa rather than walking in the forest, this may not be right dog for you.  SV:s like exercise and they are actually pretty strong  and fast dogs. Short legs doesn´t make them less active.

No grooming needed

Others SV:s are very easy to take care of. Their hair doesn´t need anything special--they even don´t get dirty as easy as many other breeds. I have noticed that the less I "take care" of their hair, the better it looks ;-) . Normally I wash my dogs once or twice a year with very mild shampoo or even without any. My dogs spend most of the time outdoors and they get  a proper wintercoat when it gets colder.  Before shows I just wipe them with a wet towel ,  perhaps kam a little and check the nails but that is all that is needed.

Obedience, Agility, Herding, Rescue… you just name it

SV:s are clever and they learn things easily--you just need to be the boss and they listen to you very carefully. I have never trained my SV:s like I did with my GS:s, but still I can keep them free in the garden and in the forest.  They don´t know what means "sit" or "lay down" but when I say "stop" or "no" or "come here", they  obey. They have just learned it by looking older dogs and because they want to please me. Well, execp Bessie… she doesn´t always want to come to car when  she knows that we go back home after a walk in the forest… ;-) .

Big dog in a small package

Don´t let your SV to fool you just because they look small--they really are not! If you put normal size legs under them they were middle sized dogs.

You´ll never have a boring day again after getting a SV or a couple of them…

These little fellows have unbelievable intelligence and they make wonderfull companionship. You just need to remember that they are quite active and if you don´t  offer them suitable activities, they might find some just by themselves… and that might not always be what you think of pleasant entertainment...
